HP calculators are iconic devices with a rich tradition that also helped in the discovery of space. Their only current manufacturer is MORAVIA Consulting in Brno.
Every year, the company sells tens of thousands of them around the world. Now it presents an updated virtual version with new features. For the redesign, they turned to Koala to help them with a new version of the calculators. How much did sales increase after the update? Take a look at our case file.
The internet is full of funny pictures where two different calculators calculate the same entry quite differently. And most of the time, it's not a mathematical error. Therefore, it was of utmost importance to us that mobile calculators were as reliable as physical ones. That's why our digital calculator emulates the physical one.

What were we counting on?
Two views of the calculator
While the physical calculators stay the same when you rotate, you need to rearrange the buttons on your mobile. And so we have prepared both horizontal and vertical modes of calculators.
User experience as with a physical calculator
It was important for us — and for MORAVIA Consulting — that users of the application had the same experience with the application as with a physical calculator. So that they could go from physical to virtual and vice versa and the control did not change for them.
Digital benefits
We didn't just want to remake a copy of the physical calculator, but the goal was to get features that make sense in digital into the app as well. Therefore, the user can customize the HP 12c calculator to suit his workflow.
I am glad that the project will be carried out from a craft but also from a business point of view. And the 30% increase in sales after the update I take as a great success. I look forward to finishing the remaining calculators.
